Common Oakville AC Problems and Solutions

June 13, 2016

We previously told you about a few of the most common air conditioning problems Oakville faces, but today we are here to tell you about some common air conditioner troubles that you can help troubleshoot.

The A/C is on but not releasing cool air.

If your air conditioner is running but not really cooling, you could need to have your refrigerant levels inspected. Refrigerant is necessary to make sure the air blowing from the AC is truly cool and keeps your home comfortable. Low refrigerant is commonly a sign of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged properly.

One way to check if you are low on refrigerant is to go out to your air conditioning system and find the two copper pipes. If the large one is “sweating” or giving off condensation, put your hand on the pipe and feel if it’s cold. If it’s cold to the touch, you are probably good to go and don’t require extra refrigerant.

If you’re unsure or the pipe is not giving off condensation and is not cold to the touch, call Abbey Air Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning and we’ll stop by and confirm your refrigerant levels and discover why your air conditioner is not blowing cool air. Remember, only an EPA Certified technician should manage refrigerant for central A/C systems, due to the risks of handling this potentially dangerous chemical.

You air condenser fan isn’t turning.

There are many reasons your condenser fan might not be turning. One is that it just burned out and you require a replacement. Humidity tends to cause more condensation so another issue to watch for is that the water is not draining properly or that the drain is hindered. If you can check for these things, you may be able to find the trouble; but, if not, give Abbey Air Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call and we can determine what is preventing your condenser fan from rotating and go over your options to get your air conditioning problem corrected.

Your A/C is not providing adequate air cooling.

The first step is to try lowering your thermostat. It seems silly but sometimes our busy lives cause us to miss the obvious. If that doesn’t get your home cooling and comfortable again, check and swap out the air filter. If the air filter is obstructed, it could cause serious cooling problems. Another thing that could be causing your lack of cooling is an air conditioning system that is not sized correctly, and unfortunately this is an all-too-common issue when homes are designed. Abbey Air Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning is happy to come out and complete an analysis to determine if the size of your A/C system is causing your issues.

Air Conditioner shuts on and off over and over

If your air conditioner is short cycling, or turning on or off consistently, it could mean one of several things. One possibility is that your condenser or evaporator is blocked or dirty and needs to be cleaned. Once the system is cleaned and all clogs moved aside, you may be back to a typical running air conditioner. Remember that humidity also plays a role so if the house cools to the correct temperatures, but then the humidity causes your house to heat up quickly, this would contribute to an on-again, off-again AC because it’s having to work harder to keep you cool and comfortable.

No matter your problem, whatever usual or unusual A/C issue you run into, Abbey Air Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning is here for you all day, everyday. We are available to you so we can get your A/C cooling and get your comfortable as soon as possible.
