Common Oakville AC Problems and Solutions

June 13, 2016

We’ve discussed a few of the most common air conditioning problems Oakville faces, but now we’re going to talk to you about some common air conditioner troubles that you can help troubleshoot.

The A/C is on but not releasing cool air.

If your air conditioner is running but not actually cooling, you could need to have your refrigerant levels checked. Refrigerant is necessary to make sure the air blowing from the AC is truly cool and keeps you comfortable. Low refrigerant is commonly an indicator of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged correctly.

One way to check if you are low on refrigerant is to go out to your air conditioning system and find the two copper pipes. If the large one is “sweating” or producing condensation, put your hand on the pipe and feel if it’s cold. If it is, you are probably good to go and don’t require extra refrigerant.

If you’re unsure or the pipe is not giving off condensation and is not cold to the touch, call Abbey Air Service Experts and we’ll stop by and confirm your refrigerant levels and find out why your air conditioner is not blowing cool air. Note: only an EPA Certified technician should manage refrigerant for central air conditioning systems, due to the risks of handling this potentially dangerous chemical.

You air condenser fan isn’t turning.

There are several reasons your condenser fan isn’t rotating. One is that it just burned out and you require a replacement. Humidity tends to cause more condensation so another issue to watch for is that the water is not draining properly or that the drain is hindered. If you can check for these things, you may be able to find the trouble; but, if not, give Abbey Air Service Experts a call and we can inspect what has stopped your condenser fan from circulating and go over your options to get your air conditioning problem fixed.

Your A/C is not providing sufficient air cooling.

The first step is to try decreasing the temperature on your thermostat. It seems silly but sometimes it’s easy to ignore the obvious. If that doesn’t get your system working right, check and replace the air filter. If the air filter is obstructed, it could cause serious cooling problems. Another problem that could result in your lack of cooling is an air conditioning system that is not sized properly, and unfortunately this is a very common issue when homes are designed. Abbey Air Service Experts is happy to come out and complete an analysis to confirm whether or not the size of your A/C system is causing your troubles.

Air Conditioner shuts on and off over and over

If your air conditioner is short cycling, or turning on or off consistently, it could mean one of multiple things. One possibility is that your condenser or evaporator is clogged or dirty and in need of cleaning. Once the equipment is cleaned and all blockages moved aside, you may be back to a typical running AC. Keep in mind that humidity also plays a role so if the house cools to the correct temperatures, but then the humidity causes your home to heat up quickly, this would contribute to an on-again, off-again AC because it’s having to work overtime to keep your home cool and comfortable.

No matter your issue, whatever usual or unusual A/C issue you run into, Abbey Air Service Experts is here for you all day, everyday. We are available to you so we can get your A/C cooling and get your comfortable as soon as possible.
