4 Tips for Furnace Repair

April 15, 2016

Spring may have sprung but in Oakville it’s not all warm and comfy outside. Your furnace has been running for months trying to keep the inside of your home comfortable, so now is the time to give your furnace some love. If you hear abnormal noises or the heating system has stopped operating, you may be in need of a furnace repair. If you notice an intense gas smell, you almost surely need furnace repair work and you should call Abbey Air Service Experts straightaway.

Before you decide that you need a furnace repair technician, read these tips from Abbey Air Service Experts.

  • Confirm your thermostat is switched to “heat.”

It may sound crazy, but we get busy and life happens, so it can be easy to miss the simple fixes. Forgetting to change over the thermostat can make you think you need furnace repair when really you can fix the problem with a literal flip of the switch!

  • Check your furnace switch.

Speaking of switches, make sure your furnace switch is on the up, or “on” position. Again, an easy miss, especially considering this switch isn’t one you tend to look at routinely. Most systems have built-in delays so be patient when you turn your furnace on and give it a few minutes to get going before panicking about needing our furnace repair man.

  • Replace your furnace air filter.

You should replace your home’s air filters at least every three months to help your heating system run more efficiently and put off any furnace repair work. An unclean air filter is one of the most typical reasons for decreased performance in furnaces, and they can also be a breeding ground for illness causing microbes and cause you and your loved ones to become sick. Change your filter to keep both your furnace and your home healthy.

  • Check the circuit breaker.

Confirm that your circuit breaker that controls your heating system is in the “off” position. If it ends up in the middle position, switch the breaker to the “off” position and then switch back to the “on” position.

Furnace repairs can get expensive, so avoid a potential issue altogether with ongoing maintenance from Abbey Air Service Experts. However, if you are ever in need of furnace repair, we are available 24/7/365 to help you with all your heating needs.
