Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are trudging through the last few weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during cold nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than turning in at night just to realize your furnace won’t start up. If your furnace won’t turn on, here are some things you can check yourself prior to calling Abbey Air Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters each month. If you fail to do so, they can end up clogged, blocking air flow and resulting in your furnace malfunctioning.

Check Your Thermostat

Try turning the temperature up a few degrees to get the furnace to kick on. If the current room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the heating system won’t turn on. Also, make sure the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem silly, but make sure the power switch next to the furnace is “On.” Even gas heating systems use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch was not accidently switched to the “Off” position.

If you review all these things and your heating equipment will still not kick on, give Abbey Air Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 289-813-5566 and we’ll come out and get you heating again as soon as possible.
